Prince William County, VA (September 10, 2025) – A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Safety Service Patroller was killed Saturday evening, September 8, while assisting a stranded driver along I-95. , Prince William Co., VA – VDOT Worker Killed, Another Injured in I-95 CrashAccording to the Virginia State Police, Michael C. Freeland, 48, of Falls Church, was helping the driver of an Audi on the right shoulder near Prince William County when a Chrysler driver lost control and crossed all lanes of traffic around 7:58 p.m. Both Freeland and the Audi driver were struck. Freeland was rushed to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The Audi driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

Authorities confirmed that charges are pending with the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances of this devastating crash.
