New Gloucester, ME – Two Killed, Four Children Injured in Crash on I-95/MM 71

New Gloucester, ME (November 19, 2025) – A deadly crash on the Maine Turnpike early Wednesday, November 19, left two adults dead and four children injured near Mile Marker 71 on I-95 south, according to Maine State Police. The crash happened around 4:25 a.m. after a 2017 GMC Acadia pulling a U-Haul trailer stopped on the right shoulder because the trailer had detached, remaining connected only by safety chains. Inside the GMC were six people from Lewiston: a man, a woman, and four children ages 7 to 14. The adults and two of the children had stepped out to fix the trailer when a southbound 2015 Audi SUV struck the trailer and the GMC from behind. The woman died at the scene. The man was taken to Maine Medical Center in critical condition and later died. All four children sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized for evaluation.

The Audi driver, a man from Wales, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital. Maine State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. Identities will be released once next-of-kin notifications are complete.

We extend our condolences to the families affected and wish the injured children a full recovery.
