Howard Co., MD – Wrong-Way Crash on I-95 Leaves Two Dead, Two Injured

Howard County, MD (January 5, 2026) – A wrong-way collision on Interstate 95 in Howard County resulted in two fatalities and left two others seriously injured on Sunday, January 4, according to Maryland State Police. The crash occurred around 2:45 a.m. and involved a Chrysler Pacifica and a Toyota Sequoia.

Troopers determined that four people were traveling in the Chrysler when it was struck head-on by the Toyota, which was traveling in the wrong direction on I-95. The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger later died at a nearby hospital.

Two additional passengers from the Chrysler sustained severe injuries. A 21-year-old was transported by ambulance to a trauma center, while a 16-year-old was airlifted for emergency care. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

Maryland State Police indicated that impairment is believed to be a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing. Charges may be considered pending the outcome of the investigation. Portions of I-95 were closed for several hours as troopers reconstructed the crash and cleared the roadway.
