St. Lucie County, FL – Fatal Crash Claims Life of Fort Pierce Woman on I-95 Near Okeechobee Rd
St. Lucie County, FL (October 9, 2023) – A tragic collision occurred on Sunday, October 9th, on I-95 in St. Lucie County. It claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman from Fort Pierce and left three others with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident happened around 3 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Okeechobee Road.
The woman was driving a 2011 Hyundai Genesis in the inside lane, heading south toward Okeechobee Road. Meanwhile, a 2022 Ram 1500 pickup truck with a driver and two passengers was parked on the inside shoulder of southbound I-95, just north of Okeechobee Road, as confirmed by FHP spokesperson Lt. Indiana Miranda.
For unknown reasons, the Hyundai veered off the road and collided with the rear of the parked Ram pickup. This collision sent the Ram into a guardrail.
Sadly, the Hyundai driver did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce.
The three occupants of the Ram pickup suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly taken to a local hospital, according to FHP. They are residents of Tampa, Louisiana, and Ohio, respectively.
The incident is currently under investigation.
