St Lucie Co, FL – Deputy and Motorist Injured in Crash on I-95 Near Indrio Rd
St. Lucie County, FL (December 19, 2024) – A St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a crash that occurred on December 19 in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Indrio Road exit. The incident involved a marked patrol vehicle and a pickup truck. The collision took place as Deputy Patterson, a six-year veteran, was clearing debris from the roadway. A distracted motorist failed to yield to the patrol vehicle, which had its emergency lights activated, and struck both the vehicle and the deputy. The impact caused significant damage to the patrol truck and left Patterson shaken but alive. Deputy Patterson and the driver of the pickup truck were both transported to a local hospital. Patterson was later released with non-life-threatening injuries, while the motorist is recovering from less severe injuries. Authorities confirmed that the motorist was cited for violating Florida’s “Move Over” law. Bodycam footage released by the sheriff’s office highlights the moments leading up to the crash. Investigators continue to review the incident to ensure proper enforcement of traffic safety laws.
We wish both individuals a full recovery.
