Richmond, VA – One Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95/Brook Rd Exit
Richmond, VA (November 1, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on I-95 northbound on October 31, resulting in the death of a Richmond resident. At around 1:30 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash near the Brook Road and Chamberlayne exits. The vehicles involved included a 2007 Ford Escape, a Ram 3500 service truck, and a 2016 Ford pickup. The driver of the Ford Escape, 28-year-old Elisabeth Mary Rumford, failed to notice that traffic was slowing due to a separate vehicle fire near the Parham Road exit. Her vehicle struck the rear of the Ram 3500, which then collided with the Ford pickup. The impact caused significant damage to the front of Rumford’s vehicle, and she sadly died at the scene. The driver of the Ram 3500 sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the Ford pickup driver was unharmed. Virginia State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and gathering evidence.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Elisabeth Rumford during this difficult time. We also wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
