Richmond, VA – Injury Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-95 SB Near MM 71.8

Richmond, VA (January 9, 2026) – A chain-reaction crash injured several people on Wednesday, January 7, on Interstate 95 southbound in Richmond. The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. near mile marker 71.8, about three miles from the Bells Road exit.

Virginia State Police said a disabled car stopped in the left lane before the collision. Another vehicle struck the stopped car, triggering a series of impacts. Five vehicles were part of the crash, including a tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer sustained damage and became disabled after the crash. Several occupants from different vehicles suffered injuries. Emergency crews transported the injured victims to nearby hospitals for medical checks.

Police said none of the reported injuries appeared life-threatening. Authorities have not released names or ages of those hurt. Officials also have not confirmed how long the disabled vehicle remained stopped before the first impact.

First responders secured the area and assisted injured victims while troopers reviewed the scene. Crews worked carefully to remove a vehicle trapped beneath the tractor-trailer.
