Richmond, VA – Wrong-Way Collision on I-95 Claims One Life, Injures Another
Richmond, VA (October 1, 2024) – A tragic wrong-way crash early Sunday morning, September 29, on I-95 left one person dead and another injured. The accident occurred at around 2:08 a.m., about 200 feet north of Broad Street in the southbound lanes of I-95. Virginia State Police reported that a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 23-year-old Liam Oliver Mancuso Palma of Henrico, was traveling in the wrong direction on I-95’s southbound lanes. The Hyundai collided head-on with a 2016 BMW 6, which could not avoid the impact. Following the initial collision, a 2021 Honda Civic struck the Hyundai as it spun out of control. Palma was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing his seatbelt. The BMW driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The driver of the Honda Civic was unharmed. Virginia State Police continue to investigate the cause of this fatal crash.
