Providence, RI (June 22, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on June 22 claimed one life and left two others injured along Interstate 95 southbound near the Atwells Avenue exit. According to the Providence Fire Department and Rhode Island State Police, the accident occurred around 3:05 a.m. when a vehicle rolled over in the middle of the roadway. Moments later, it was struck by two oncoming vehicles, triggering a fire that engulfed the overturned car. The driver of the flipped vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the impact and subsequent fire.
Firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other vehicles involved. Two additional victims were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Officials described their injuries as non-life-threatening. Rhode Island State Police are actively investigating the sequence of events.
