Oakland Park, FL – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95 at the Oakland Park Blvd Exit Claims Life of 74-Year-Old, Injures 2
Oakland Park, FL (October 6, 2023) – A tragic incident occurred on the night of October 6th, in Oakland Park, when a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 resulted in the loss of a 74-year-old man’s life and left two others injured.
At around 10 p.m., a 74-year-old Homestead resident, whose identity remains undisclosed, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla, traveling southbound on I-95.
He was approaching the Oakland Park Boulevard exit in the inside lane. Unfortunately, this stretch of the highway had already seen an earlier accident that had caused three vehicles to come to a standstill.
Regrettably, the driver of the Corolla was unable to slow down in time to avoid a collision. His vehicle struck the rear of a Toyota Highlander, driven by a 39-year-old man from Port St. Lucie. The impact from the Corolla caused a chain reaction, as the Highlander then collided with a Mercedes-Benz, which had a 26-year-old man inside, and subsequently, the Mercedes-Benz collided with a Jeep Cherokee carrying a 21-year-old woman.
First responders from Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue swiftly arrived at the scene. They transported the critically injured 74-year-old man to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where, sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.
Thankfully, the 26-year-old man and 21-year-old woman sustained injuries that, while serious, were not life-threatening. Immediate on-site medical attention was provided to them.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues its thorough investigation into this tragic accident, seeking to determine the precise sequence of events and factors that contributed to this devastating collision.
Our hearts go out to the victims of this heartbreaking incident,
