
New Haven, CT – Fatal Fiery Head-On Collision on I-95 SB Near Exit 48 Claims Wrong-Way Driver’s Life


New Haven, CT (June 28, 2023) – An unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday on Interstate 95 in New Haven, resulting in a fatal fiery crash involving a wrong-way driver.
Connecticut State Police received reports of the accident around 2:15 a.m., north of Exit 48 on the southbound lanes of I-95.
Jimmie Wilson, a 41-year-old resident of West Haven, was operating a 2015 Kia Optima LX, traveling north in the center lane meant for southbound traffic. Tragically, Wilson’s vehicle collided head-on with a box truck, causing the truck to erupt in flames. Sadly, Wilson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The box truck’s driver and two passengers sustained injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening. Promptly, emergency responders transported them to Yale New Haven Hospital’s St. Raphael campus for medical attention.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad has commenced an investigation into the crash.
