Lexington, MA – Fatal Wrong-Way Collision Claims Two Lives on I-95 Near Exit 49 and Exit 49B
Lexington, MA (October 14, 2023) – A tragic incident occurred on Saturday, October 14th in Lexington, Massachusetts, resulting in a fatal wrong-way collision on Interstate 95/Route 128, as confirmed by the Massachusetts State Police.
Around 1:20 a.m., concerned citizens urgently contacted the State Police’s Concord Barracks to report a wrong-way driver heading southbound in the northbound lanes.
State troopers quickly responded, but tragically, before they could intervene, a devastating collision took place near the Route 4/255 interchange.
The collision involved two vehicles: a 2001 Toyota RAV4 traveling north on I-95/Route 128 near Exit 49 and a 2019 Toyota Prius driven in the wrong direction, colliding head-on with the RAV4 near Exit 49B, the exit leading to Route 4 North/Route 225 West.
The impact was severe, causing the RAV4 to overturn and catch fire.
Regrettably, both drivers involved in this distressing incident, whose identities are currently undisclosed, were extracted from their vehicles by firefighters and declared deceased at the scene.
The Concord State Police Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section are actively investigating the cause of the crash.
