Lewiston, ME – Woman Suffers Injuries in Fiery I-95 Crash at MM 79

Lewiston, Maine (August 14, 2023) – A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 in Lewiston led to a fiery crash, resulting in injuries for one woman. The incident occurred on August 14th, around 2:06 p.m., and prompted the response of Maine State Police.

The crash transpired at mile marker 79 northbound on I-95 in Lewiston, as detailed in an official statement by the Maine Department of Public Safety. Upon arrival, law enforcement found a Subaru engulfed in flames within the breakdown lane, partially obstructing the travel lane. Another Subaru, with minor damages, had pulled over nearby.

An initial investigation revealed that the driver of the blazing Subaru had lost control in the passing lane due to heavy rainfall. This caused a collision with the second vehicle in the travel lane. The first vehicle then struck the median before coming to a halt in the breakdown and travel lanes. Reports noted that visibility was extremely poor at the time of the incident.

While the driver of the Subaru that caught fire emerged without injury, the operator of the second Subaru sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Both northbound lanes were temporarily closed for about an hour.
