Howard Co., MD – Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95 Leaves Several Injured
Howard County, MD (January 12, 2026) – A deadly multi-vehicle collision brought traffic to a standstill on Interstate 95 southbound in Howard County on Monday, January 11. Maryland State Police reported that the crash occurred just after 5:30 a.m. near Route 100.
Investigators indicated that a Freightliner refuse collection truck was traveling southbound when it struck a Volvo tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder. The driver of the refuse truck, identified as 47-year-old Lazaro Miranda of Baltimore, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two passengers in the refuse truck sustained serious injuries and were transported by helicopter to a regional shock trauma center. The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer was taken to a hospital for evaluation, while another passenger was not injured.
Maryland State Police closed multiple lanes for several hours as they conducted an investigation and cleared debris. The crash remains under investigation.
