Harnett Co., NC – Two-Vehicle Crash on I-95/Exit 71 Leaves Critical Injuries
Harnett County, NC (January 6, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 northbound near the Long Branch Road exit left one driver critically injured on Tuesday, January 6. The collision occurred around 3:06 p.m. near Exit 71, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers arrived to find a Kia Optima with extensive damage resting in the grass near the exit ramp. A semitractor-trailer operated by Industrial Transport Services sustained rear trailer and axle damage. Investigators reported that traffic in the area had slowed due to an earlier crash roughly one mile ahead.
According to preliminary findings by Trooper R. Grady, the Kia approached stopped traffic and was unable to slow in time. The driver attempted to avoid another vehicle before striking the rear of the tractor-trailer. The Kia driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital to meet a medical helicopter for advanced care.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. The driver’s name has not been released.
