Cumberland Co., NC – One Killed, Another Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95 at MM 52

Cumberland County, NC (October 6, 2025) – A devastating crash on Interstate 95 North near Mile Marker 52 in Cumberland County claimed one life and left another person injured early Monday morning, October 6. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) reported that the collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a tractor-trailer struck a disabled dump truck parked on the shoulder.

Investigators say a mechanic working on the dump truck was hit while walking back to his service vehicle to retrieve tools. The impact proved fatal, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer also collided with the dump truck, trapping its driver inside the cab for nearly 20 minutes.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free the driver, who was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
