Cumberland Co., NC – Driver in Critical Condition After Crash on I-95 SB Near MM 47

Cumberland County, NC (October 18, 2025) – A serious crash on October 18 left one driver critically injured on Interstate 95 southbound near the 47-mile marker, according to reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 2:10 a.m., when a Chevrolet Tahoe struck the rear of a USPS contract truck, trapping the Tahoe’s driver inside the mangled vehicle. Emergency crews arrived quickly and worked to free the man from the wreckage. Once extricated, first responders performed CPR at the scene before transporting him to Cape Fear Valley Medical Centre in critical condition.

Troopers confirmed that no other serious injuries occurred. The other individuals involved declined further medical treatment at the scene.

All southbound lanes of I-95 were temporarily closed while investigators and cleanup crews responded to the crash, but reopened shortly after 4:00 a.m.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision, including whether speed, fatigue, or visibility may have contributed.
