Cranston, RI – State Trooper and Driver Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash on I-95 S
Cranston, RI (June 24, 2025) – A Rhode Island State Trooper and a civilian driver were injured in a serious multi-vehicle collision on the afternoon of Monday, June 24, along Interstate 95 South near the Laurens Street overpass in Cranston. The incident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. as a state trooper was conducting a roadside inspection of a tractor-trailer parked in the breakdown lane. According to the Rhode Island State Police, a minivan traveling in the first lane suddenly veered off the highway and slammed into the rear of the stationary police cruiser. The impact caused the cruiser to lurch forward into the tractor-trailer, trapping the trooper inside the vehicle.
Emergency crews from the Cranston Fire Department responded swiftly and were able to extricate the trooper, who suffered injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment and observation. The minivan’s driver, who complained of pain following the crash, was taken to Kent County Hospital for evaluation. The operator of the tractor-trailer was not injured. Rhode Island State Police are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
