Colonial Heights, VA – Motorcycle Crash with Tractor-Trailer Causes Injuries on I-95 Near 55
Colonial Heights, VA (September 14, 2023) – A motorcycle driver was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer on I-95 in Colonial Heights, leading to two injuries and the temporary shutdown of both northbound and southbound lanes. The incident occurred around 11:24 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th.
Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-95 North, near the 55-mile marker close to Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the tractor-trailer driver, heading north on I-95, veered off the left side of the road, striking the median jersey wall. Subsequently, it crossed into the southbound lanes after a 2020 BMW M8 motorcycle rider from New York changed lanes, leading to the motorcycle becoming lodged beneath the tractor-trailer.
The 21-year-old motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Notably, he was charged with reckless driving, but he was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
In contrast, the truck driver, a 34-year-old man from Maryland, remained uninjured and faced no charges, according to State Police.
The crash’s impact resulted in concrete debris from the jersey wall spilling onto the roadway, causing at least three vehicles to collide with the debris and become disabled. One of the drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
This accident remains under investigation by the state police, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
Our thoughts are with the injured parties, and we hope for their swift recovery.
