Cocoa, FL – Plane Lands on I-95, Strikes Car, Injuring Woman
Cocoa, FL (December 8, 2025) – A 57-year-old Melbourne woman is continuing to recover after a Beechcraft 55 aircraft crash-landed onto I-95 on Monday evening, December 8, striking her vehicle in the process. The unusual crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes just south of State Road 520, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue. Investigators say the pilot was attempting an emergency landing after reporting engine failure moments before the aircraft descended onto the roadway. During the landing, the plane collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry driven by the woman, leaving her with non-life-threatening injuries. The aircraft came to rest partially perched on a concrete barrier, drawing a large emergency response and temporarily shutting down lanes as traffic backed up for miles.
The pilot, a 27-year-old man from Orlando, and a 27-year-old passenger from Temple Terrace were both uninjured, officials confirmed. The fixed-wing aircraft is registered to Tailwinds Flying of Merritt Island. Crews worked carefully to stabilize the aircraft, remove fuel hazards, and ensure the safety of motorists in the area. Federal aviation authorities have opened an investigation into the mechanical failure and events leading up to the emergency landing. The injured woman received medical evaluation at the scene before being transported for further care, and she is expected to recover.
We send our heartfelt wishes for her continued healing.
