Chesterfield, VA (November 26, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on I-95 North near the 85-mile marker left one driver seriously injured on Tuesday evening, November 25. According to the Virginia State Police, the collision occurred around 7:15 p.m. as a Safety Service Patrol (SSP) vehicle, contracted through the Virginia Department of Transportation, finished assisting a disabled vehicle on the left shoulder.
The SSP operator was attempting to merge back into the left travel lane when an oncoming vehicle collided with the rear of the patrol truck. The driver of the striking vehicle suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation. The SSP driver was assessed on-site and did not report any injuries.
Investigators with the Virginia State Police are actively reviewing roadway evidence and witness statements to determine what led to the crash.
